OPPO claims Find N5 is thinner than Apple’s iPad Pro (M4)

OPPO is teasing its Find N5 foldable phone, claiming it’s thinner than Apple’s iPad Pro (M4). It is expected to launch globally in February 2025.

Billy Zhang, OPPO’s President of Overseas Marketing, Sales and Service, recently teased the upcoming OPPO Find N5 on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He shared a comparison image between the Find N5 and Apple’s iPad Pro (M4). According to the image, the Find N5 is noticeably thinner when unfolded than the iPad Pro, which measures just 5.1mm. Zhang’s post also hinted at a February 2025 launch for the foldable device.

A bold international statement

Interestingly, Zhang’s choice to post on X in English, rather than the usual Chinese-language platform Weibo, indicates OPPO’s intention to release the Find N5 globally. This marks a shift from the common practice of launching devices in China first, showing that OPPO is targeting an international audience with this latest innovation.

This isn’t OPPO’s first foray into foldable technology, but they are positioning the Find N5 as a game-changer. The comparison to Apple—a brand synonymous with sleek, premium devices—is a deliberate move to grab attention. It also challenges Apple’s reputation for creating some of the thinnest devices on the market.

Can OPPO outdo its rivals?

The Honor Magic V3, launched earlier, already holds the record for being incredibly thin at just 4.35mm when unfolded. While OPPO hasn’t confirmed the Find N5’s exact thickness, this teaser suggests they aim to surpass Honor’s benchmark. It’s also worth noting that achieving this level of thinness in a foldable phone is no small feat, particularly when integrating features like a USB-C port.

Adding to the speculation, a tipster on X, known as @TechHome100, recently shared alleged images of the OPPO Find N5 taken at a private event. The photos showcased what might be the new foldable phone, though they remain unverified since the teaser from OPPO doesn’t reveal the device’s camera design. We’ll have to wait to see if the leaked images match the official product.

OPPO’s strategic move to compare the Find N5 to Apple’s iPad Pro rather than competing Chinese foldable devices highlights its ambition to gain a broader fanbase. The brand appears to appeal to both loyal Oppo users and potential Apple converts.

As February 2025 approaches, tech enthusiasts eagerly await how OPPO plans to deliver on this promise of ultra-thin, cutting-edge technology. Will the Find N5 set a new standard for foldable phones? Only time will tell.
