Samsung has officially launched its latest ultra short throw (UST) 4K projectors, the Premiere 7 and Premiere 9, following a preview at CES 2024. These new models promise to deliver an upgraded cinematic experience, boasting significant brightness and colour accuracy improvements over the earlier Premiere LSP9T and LSP7T models. With these enhancements, Samsung aims to elevate your home viewing experience.

Improved picture quality and smart TV features

The Premiere 7 and Premiere 9 projectors are designed to provide a superior visual experience, especially compared to their predecessors. The Premiere 7 offers 2,500 ISO lumens of brightness and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 HDR colour standard, ensuring vibrant and true-to-life colours. However, it only supports HDR10, which may be a slight drawback compared to other market projectors handling Dolby Vision content. Despite this, the inclusion of Dolby Atmos technology and 30W 2.2ch speakers ensures an immersive sound experience that matches the impressive visuals.

On the other hand, the Premiere 9 takes things a step further with a triple laser engine that boosts brightness to 3,450 ISO lumens. This model also introduces Samsung’s HDR10+ technology, offering a high dynamic range that automatically enhances your viewing experience by adjusting brightness and contrast based on lighting conditions. The Premiere 9 also features 40W speakers with Dolby Atmos in a 2.2.2 channel up-firing setup, delivering powerful, clear audio that complements the sharp picture quality.

Both models come equipped with Samsung’s Tizen OS, providing access to popular streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Samsung TV Plus. Moreover, the newly integrated Samsung Gaming Hub adds an exciting element for gamers, offering over 3,000 titles from platforms like Xbox without needing a console. This makes the Premiere 7 and Premiere 9 versatile entertainment hubs for your home.

A closer look at the models

The Premiere 7, positioned as a mid-range option in the UST category, is a strong contender for those seeking a high-quality projector at a relatively affordable price. Its 2,500 ISO lumens of brightness and DCI-P3 HDR support make it suitable for most home theatre setups, though it needs to catch up in HDR performance when compared to some competitors.

Meanwhile, the Premiere 9 offers a more premium experience, just below Samsung’s flagship 8K UST projector. With its enhanced brightness of 3,450 ISO lumens and HDR10+ technology, this model is designed for those who want the best possible picture quality. It also boasts a wider colour gamut, covering 154% of the DCI-P3 standard, which ensures even more vivid and accurate colours.

Pricing and availability

As expected from Samsung, these projectors come with a premium price tag. The Premiere 7 is priced at US$2,999, making it a solid option for those who want a high-quality projector without breaking the bank. However, the Premiere 9, with its advanced features and superior performance, is priced at a hefty US$5,999. While this might be on the higher end, these projectors’ impressive features and quality could justify the investment for home cinema enthusiasts.
