Samsung sets May 12 launch date for Galaxy S25 Edge at virtual Unpacked event

At its virtual Unpacked event, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S25 Edge on May 12. It will feature a 200MP camera and premium features in a slim design.

You won’t have to wait much longer to get all the details about Samsung’s newest slim smartphone. The company has officially announced that it will unveil the Galaxy S25 Edge during a virtual Unpacked event on May 12 at 8PM ET. This follows months of speculation since Samsung first hinted at a slim design during a teaser earlier this year in January.

Now that the date is confirmed, Samsung fans and smartphone watchers can mark their calendars. At the same time, this announcement answers the big question of when. You’ll still need to tune in to the live stream to learn the full specs and pricing. The event will be broadcast across several platforms, including Samsung’s official YouTube channel.

Galaxy S25 Edge confirmed with high-end features

Samsung isn’t holding back on what it plans to reveal. In its latest blog post, the tech giant confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Edge is the headline feature of the event. The post describes the phone as one that “not only sets a new standard for what you can achieve with your smartphone, but it also unlocks a new era of growth for the mobile industry.”

That’s a bold claim, especially given the mobile market’s slowing sales. Still, Samsung seems confident that the S25 Edge could boost the industry.

Despite its slim and sleek look, the S25 Edge will reportedly include a 200-megapixel main camera—the same one used in the high-end Galaxy S25 Ultra. That alone suggests the S25 Edge is designed to sit firmly in the premium smartphone category, rather than a mid-range or budget option.

The phone is expected to offer what Samsung calls “flagship-level performance with superior portability,” suggesting that you can expect top-tier speed, features, and camera quality all packed into a slimmer frame.

A strong competitor to Apple’s slim phone

This launch sets up a possible rivalry between Samsung and Apple, which is rumoured to be developing its own slim device, the iPhone 17 Air. However, reports suggest that Apple’s version might include only a single rear camera and a mix of high-end and budget-friendly components.

In contrast, the S25 Edge is going all-in with advanced hardware. That may give Samsung an edge with users who want high performance without sacrificing design.

Pre-orders hint at possible early availability in the US

One major question remains: how much will the Galaxy S25 Edge cost, and where will it be available first?

So far, Samsung hasn’t revealed the price, but based on its premium features, you can expect it to be priced accordingly, likely in the US$999+ range. Some earlier rumours suggested the phone could launch first in South Korea, with a slight delay before reaching US markets.

However, there’s a promising sign for US customers. Samsung US already offers a US$50 credit to customers who reserve their phone before the official reveal. That might be a hint that the phone could hit the US market sooner than expected.

For now, all eyes are on May 12. If you’re curious to see what Samsung’s slim smartphone vision looks like in full detail, be sure to catch the live virtual Unpacked event.
