Sony resumes sales of Xperia 1 VII in Singapore after investigation

Sony resumes Xperia 1 VII sales in Singapore after an investigation and an enhanced manufacturing process to address a circuit board flaw.

Sony has resumed sales of its Xperia 1 VII smartphone in Singapore, following a suspension of availability for over a month. The company halted sales in Singapore and several other markets while conducting an investigation and introducing an enhanced manufacturing process to address concerns.

Pre-orders open in Singapore

The Sony Singapore website confirms that the Xperia 1 VII is now available for pre-order again. Customers can now purchase the device for a discounted price of S$1,909, down from its usual price of S$1,989. Shipments are expected to begin in early September.

Sales of the Xperia 1 VII have also resumed in other key markets, including the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, signalling a wider restart of distribution following the company’s internal review.

Findings from the investigation

Sony explained that its investigation identified a flaw in the production process that could affect a small number of devices. “The manufacturing process may cause a failure of the circuit board in a small number of Xperia 1 VII smartphones, which could potentially result in power issues,” the company stated.

To address the issue, Sony has implemented several corrective measures. It has modified the manufacturing process, identified all affected units, and issued updates to impacted customers. The company has also contacted customers who purchased their devices directly from Sony to ensure that any concerns are resolved quickly and efficiently.

Enhanced quality controls for future devices

Sony has introduced a new quality management system designed to strengthen checks at every stage of production. This system has already been applied to Xperia 1 VII replacement units and new stock currently on sale. Sony confirmed that it intends to expand these measures across all future Xperia smartphones.

The company’s swift response underscores its commitment to product reliability and customer satisfaction. With sales now resuming across multiple regions, Sony aims to rebuild consumer confidence in its flagship device.
